Paris prospers in controversial social science scheme

Three of six research programmes to be directed by Parisian institutions

A major French government funding call for research programmes in the humanities and social sciences—which was criticised for alleged “marked Parisianism”—has awarded three of its first six grants to bids helmed by Parisian institutions.

Inalco, a research centre focused on Asian languages, New Sorbonne University and Sorbonne University, all based in Paris, won grants of €9 million to establish new programmes, as did the universities of Lille, Strasbourg and Grenoble Alpes.
