Launch Okanagan, MNP hosting four financial workshops in November – Kelowna News

Launch Okanagan has several workshops planned in November that will cover many financial bases.

November is Financial Literacy Month, so Launch Okanagan, with sponsorship from MNP, is conducting four online workshops that will examine budgeting, debt, RESPs and RDSPs.

“At MNP, we believe that financial literacy is a key component to personal and community success, and we are proud to partner with Launch Okanagan to bring these workshops to our community,” Kelowna licensed insolvency trustee Jeané Herman said in a press release.

“Through this partnership, our goal is to provide individuals with practical tools and resources to take control of their finances, to reduce stress, and to build a better future for themselves and their families.”

The first workshop, called Launch My Budget, is scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 7. It will teach participants how to create a budget and stick to it thanks to a variety of resources.

Managing Debt 101 is scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 14, and will discuss the often stressful topic of debt. The workshop will get participants to take a step back, review their debt situation and create strategies to take control of the situation.

RESP Essentials will be held on Thursday, Nov. 21, and will teach parents or guardians how to open up a special savings account for their children’s post-secondary education. It will also share various grants for which you can apply.

Finally, RDSP Essentials will be held on Thursday, Nov. 28, to share information about registered disability savings plans. The workshop will cover who is eligible, how to apply, and extra supports that may be available to grow your savings.

All workshops are free to attend and will be delivered on Zoom by a Launch Okanagan facilitator. If you can’t join a workshop live, you can still register, and you will be emailed a recording of the class and any related materials. You may choose to attend any of the available workshops, and all levels of participation are welcome.

Participants can choose to interact and ask questions or simply listen and be an anonymous participant.

Registration information about the Launch Okanagan workshops can be found on its website here.
