Kushmanda is derived from Ku+Usma+Anda;
The word, Kushmanda, refers to the cosmic egg from which Kushmanda created the universe through her mentsl projection, when time and space didn’t exist.Before her arrival, there was neither ‘Sat’ nor ‘Asat’.
She appears with eight hands Holding bow, arrow, discus and mace in Her four hands; lotus, rosary, and holy urn (kamandal) in three arms; and a jar of nectar in the eighth arm that bestows health and long life to the devotees, she is also called Ashtabhuja Devi. Rosary signifies her power to bless her devotees with the Ashtasiddhi (8 kinds of attainments) and Navanidhi (9 kinds of fortunes). Mounted upon a lion, she signifies Dhrama.
The Devi of ‘Anahata Chakra’, when you invoke her grace, She
blesses you with a healthy and long life, fame and prosperity in life.
Residing in the inner Suryalok (the Sun), Her complexion is as radiant as the Sun through which she radiates brightness and dispells darkness in the world.
It is believed that she is fond of pumpkin and for the same reason, the fruit is offered to her besides malpua.
Post the creation of the Universe, Maa Kushmanda formed three Goddesses with paramount power – Mahakali, Mahalakshmi, and Mahasarswati.
From Her left eye, Mahakali was born and from Mahakali, Panchmukhi Shiva and Chaturbhuji Saraswati were born.
Mahalakshmi was born from the centre eye on Maa Kushmanda’s and from the body of Mahalakshmi, chaturmukhi Brahma, and Chaturbhuji Lakshmi were born.
Maa Kushmanda’s glance at Mahasaraswati formed Vishnu and Shakti.
Maa Kushmanda joined Shakti and Shiva, Saraswati and Brahma, Lakshmi and Vishnu.
The Adi Shakti, being Maa Kushmanda Herself, bore the entire cosmos and chose to reside in the sun’s core, propelling it with the power to warm and light the entirety.
She is so illuminating that she bestows power upon the Sun to burn and release unimaginable energy and is thus, also known as ‘Surya Mandala Antarvardhini’.

Keeping the puja area clean and clutter-free pleases Goddess Durga. Northeast (ishana kon) of the room is the best area to place Maa Durga’s idol upon a wooden plinth.
During Navratri puja, one should face the east and north direction while praying. This helps attract success and courage.
Navratre should begin with a Kalash full of clean water, topped with a coconut and adorned by mango leaves. The Kalash helps improve communication and promotes harmony. Also, one should invoke the energy of the Akhand Jyoti (ghee lamp) in the mandir as it harnesses good fortune and inner peace.
Tulsi plant in the northeast corner of the house strikes harmony, invokes peace and prosperity.
As per Vastu Shastra, the sound of blowing conch shells and ringing bells generates positive energy and pleases the
Goddess.
